Itinerary

  1. Day 1430 km

Chiang Mai to Phu Thap Boek – Riding into Thailand's Mountain Kingdom

Your adventure begins in Chiang Mai. After a comprehensive tour briefing and motorcycle handover, you'll set off leaving the city behind as the roads unfold toward Thailand's central highlands.

The morning ride takes you through picturesque countryside, passing rice fields, teak forests, and traditional Thai villages. As the route progresses south-east, the roads become increasingly engaging, with sweeping curves that let you settle into the rhythm of the tour.

A leisurely lunch stop introduces you to authentic regional cuisine before the landscape transforms. Rolling farmland gives way to forested hills as you approach Phetchabun Province.

The final approach to Phu Thap Boek is a highlight in itself: a spectacular mountain road of flowing bends and panoramic viewpoints. The air becomes cooler as the elevation increases. Arriving at Thailand's highest inhabited mountain village, you'll be rewarded with views stretching across a sea of peaks. Tonight, relax with fellow riders as the sun sets across the valleys.

Road conditions: A mix of well-maintained highways, secondary rural roads, and mountain roads. The final ascent features smooth pavement, elevation changes, and sweeping bends ideally suited to adventure-touring motorcycles.

Estimated riding time: 7–8 hours, excluding sightseeing and refreshment stops.

  2. Day 2420 km

Phu Thap Boek to Vientiane – Crossing into the Land of a Million Elephants

Leaving the cool mountain air of Phu Thap Boek, you'll descend through winding roads and sweeping valleys before joining the scenic highways toward Thailand's northeastern Isaan region. Forested mountains give way to expansive agricultural plains.

As you ride eastward, you'll pass traditional farming communities, sugarcane fields, and rice-growing country. There will be time for local coffee and regional cuisine before continuing toward the banks of the Mekong River.

By early afternoon you'll arrive at the Nong Khai Border Checkpoint. After completing border formalities, you'll cross the Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge spanning the Mekong — the beginning of a new chapter.

Entering Laos, the pace of life slows. Wide boulevards, French colonial influences, Buddhist temples, and riverside cafés shape Vientiane, one of Asia's most understated capitals. This evening, stroll the Mekong waterfront or simply enjoy the city.

Road conditions: Mountain descents, well-maintained highways, and flat countryside roads with light traffic for much of the day.

Estimated riding time: 6–7 hours, excluding border formalities, sightseeing, and refreshment stops.

  3. Day 3160 km

Vientiane to Vang Vieng – Limestone Mountains and Laos' Legendary Roads

After a relaxed morning in Vientiane, you'll head north toward one of the country's most celebrated destinations. Today's ride is shorter in distance, but it delivers some of the most scenic landscapes in Laos.

The route follows well-maintained roads through rural villages, fertile farmland, and rolling countryside. As the mountains appear on the horizon, towering limestone karsts rise from the valleys.

Approaching Vang Vieng, jagged limestone peaks, winding rivers, and lush rice fields create a backdrop famous among travellers and photographers. On arrival you can visit caves, viewpoints, local markets, or simply enjoy a drink overlooking the Nam Song River as the sun sets.

Road conditions: Paved main roads near the capital are usually in decent shape. Once you head into rural or hilly terrain, expect rougher surfaces, potholes, and the occasional unexpected obstacle. Keep your speed down and stay alert.

Estimated riding time: 3–4 hours, excluding sightseeing and refreshment stops.

  4. Day 4260 km

Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang via Pak Ou Caves

Today's journey takes you deeper into the mountainous heart of Laos, following one of the country's most rewarding motorcycle routes. Leaving Vang Vieng, you'll ride winding mountain roads, dense forests, and remote villages where traditional Lao culture remains largely unchanged.

The route offers a continuous succession of sweeping bends, elevation changes, and panoramic viewpoints. Along the way, stop for local coffee and take in the mountain scenery.

Before reaching Luang Prabang, you'll visit the Pak Ou Caves, at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Ou Rivers. This sacred site houses thousands of Buddha statues placed in limestone caves over centuries. Arriving by the Mekong adds a unique cultural dimension to the day's ride.

The final stretch leads to Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage city widely regarded as the cultural soul of Laos. Surrounded by mountains and bordered by the Mekong, it blends Buddhist temples, French colonial architecture, vibrant markets, and a relaxed atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Southeast Asia.

Estimated riding time: 5–6 hours, excluding sightseeing and refreshment stops.

  5. Day 5

Luang Prabang – Rest Day and Cultural Discovery

Today is yours at a relaxed pace in Luang Prabang, the cultural and spiritual heart of Laos. After several rewarding days on the road, unwind and explore this UNESCO World Heritage city.

Visit celebrated temples including Wat Xieng Thong, wander the historic old town, or browse local markets. Early risers can witness the centuries-old alms-giving ceremony, where saffron-robed monks collect offerings from residents.

Optional excursions include Kuang Si Waterfalls, where turquoise pools cascade through the jungle, or a boat trip along the Mekong. The day is also an opportunity to relax at a riverside café, enjoy authentic Lao cuisine, or simply soak in the atmosphere.

This evening, gather with fellow riders to share stories from the journey so far, before the next stage through Northern Laos.

  6. Day 6290 km

Luang Prabang to Pak Beng – Along the Mekong Highlands

Leaving Luang Prabang, you'll venture deeper into Northern Laos on remote, rewarding mountain roads. The day begins through rolling countryside before climbing into the forested highlands.

The road winds through mountain ridges, traditional villages, and scenic valleys — an authentic glimpse of rural Laos far from the usual tourist routes. Frequent photo stops let you take in the scale of the landscape.

By late afternoon you'll arrive in Pak Beng, a quiet riverside town on the Mekong. Known as a trading post and overnight stop for river travellers, it offers a peaceful atmosphere and views over one of Asia's most iconic waterways. Tonight, relax overlooking the Mekong as the sun sets behind the hills.

Road conditions: A rewarding day of mountain riding on paved roads, with flowing curves, elevation changes, and occasional remote sections. Traffic is generally light.

Estimated riding time: 6–7 hours, excluding sightseeing and refreshment stops.

  7. Day 7180 km

Pak Beng to Ban Huak Border Checkpoint – Phayao, Thailand

This morning you'll depart Pak Beng and continue through the remote mountains of Northern Laos — one final day of riding in the Land of a Million Elephants. The route winds through scenic highlands, dense forests, and traditional villages, including several ethnic minority communities.

By early afternoon you'll arrive at the Ban Huak Border Checkpoint, one of the lesser-used crossings between Laos and Thailand. After immigration and customs, you'll cross back into Thailand and head to Phayao on Kwan Phayao Lake.

This evening, stroll the lakeside promenade, sample Northern Thai cuisine, and watch the sunset reflect across the water.

Road conditions: Mountain roads and rural highways with light traffic. Expect flowing curves, elevation changes, and scenic viewpoints before the border.

Estimated riding time: 4–5 hours, excluding border formalities and refreshment stops.

  8. Day 8180 km

Phayao to Chiang Mai – The Final Ride Home

Your final day on the road begins beside the tranquil waters of Kwan Phayao before heading west toward Chiang Mai through the scenic countryside of Northern Thailand. Although shorter in distance, today's ride is a fitting close to the journey.

The route follows rural roads and gentle mountain sections through fertile valleys, forested hills, and traditional villages. As you approach Chiang Mai, the familiar mountain backdrop of Northern Thailand comes into view.

Upon arrival you'll return your motorcycle and gather with fellow riders to celebrate the completion of this cross-border adventure. The tour ends in Chiang Mai.

Road conditions: A relaxed touring day on well-maintained secondary roads, with gentle curves and light traffic.

Estimated riding time: 3–4 hours, excluding sightseeing and refreshment stops.
